Friends and family congregate around it. We drink tea from it. Sometimes have dinner from it. Occasionally read the paper or play games with our children on this lowly item of furniture, we call the Coffee Table. Yet there's no need to splash out too much money on such an important piece for home or office. Here are our favourite high street designs, all of which can be bought for under £500!
1. GO SCANDI.
Rob Scarlett’s Brunel range for Heals is a cross between industrial style and mid-century Scandinavian design which is very popular now for those fans of simplicity and clean design. Functions as a coffee table, side desk (as pictured) or even an AV unit. You can even buy an addition additional shelf to fix beneath it.
2. OPT FOR MIDDLE EASTERN.
The Orrico from retail favourite, Habitat is made from rose gold hammered aluminium and is perfect if you want to get an exotic, middle eastern vibe to your home. Surprisingly light, iridescent with a texture made from hundreds of tiny hammer marks which catches and reflects light. This bronze beauty is also available different sizes and finishes.
3. HIDE YOUR CLUTTER.
This simple solid ash wood table is called the Grayson and is available from John Lewis. If you're particularly messy and have all sorts of stuff lying around but want something you can quickly deposit your mess away when visitors come over, then this is table with sliding side door is for you.
4. TRY THE SUPERMARKET.
Terence Conran's Aitken range for Marks & Spencer is a surprise bargain find. A sleek modern dark wood design which is also incredibly practical with it's ample side storage. Ideal for busy families who want something affordable and durable but still retain an element of sophistication for their communal living space.
5. GO SIXTIES CHIC.
This 1960s inspired design from MADE.com comes in white, black, walnut or natural ash (pictured). Made from veneered plywood with chrome legs, this table will make your living space retro looking and within budget. We love the organic curves and breathing space for your magazines or books or keep it minimal and uncluttered. Yeah, baby!
6. STACK 'EM HIGH.
Maybe you want more than one, maybe you want three? Good news is you can be greedy and not spend a crazy amount with this set of three sleek cluster tables by Ferm Living from Made In Design. They come in White, Grey and Anthracite and great for a studio apartment where you may need to conserve space and use tables for various functions.
